Good design is the direct result of great research. Design Stream researched and categorised the market according to manufacturers, machines and price points to identify possible positioning opportunities. In this ways we could make sure that all design proposals created were targeted to maximise sales opportunity.

Design Stream created concepts and structured the presentation specifically to provoke discussion and capture the client’s expertise, experience and ultimate preferences. This allowed us to rapidly focus on the correct concepts to develop, ensuring the route to market was fast and efficient and made the most business sense.

Design Stream designs are always based on creative flair and production viability. The final concept was selected to avoid costly and time intensive tooling investments, yet deliver an overwhelming feeling of quality in the finished unit- essential for instilling trust in this new brand.

Although not yet launched, Star Espresso’s potential success has already been recognised with the product being shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Design and Art Direction awards.

Coffee's New Star

In November 2005 investors in the commercial coffee business, following several industry based referrals, approached Design Stream with a brief to create a new espresso machine. We recognised that a large proportion of current sales are for the bar and restaurant market, hence the new product should target the lucrative hospitality sector and capitalise on trends in designed retail environments. Not only would this become the route which made it possible to create a design that reflected the best of ‘cool Britannia’ but it would allow the product to be more easily differentiated from a raft of conventional Italian competitors.
